INDOOR AIR QUALITY
people enjoy greater well-being in workplaces with plants Increasingly, researchers are establishing the correlation between indoor air quality and the productivity of workers as well as the health of individuals. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, Americans spend about 90% of their time indoors. Health Canada estimates that Canadians spend more than 80% of their time indoors. In general, a significant proportion of this indoor time is spent within the home, with the time spent in workplaces coming in a close second. US EPA now places poor indoor air quality fourth on a list of 31 largest environmental threats in the US. It is estimated that nearly 25% of US residents are affected by poor indoor air quality, either at the workplace or the home. Indoor air pollutants can be as diverse as toxic chemicals emitted from building materials and furnishings, combustion pollutants like carbon monoxide and toxic particles, and biological contaminants such as moulds and bacteria. The EPA estimates that pollution levels in some buildings fitted with very sophisticated HVAC systems are up to 100 times higher than outdoors. This means we need to find better solutions to addressing indoor air quality problems. LIVING WALLS have been developed to draw on the natural strength of Nature's innate purification processes to address indoor air quality problems, improving significantly on the performance of HVAC systems. Sometimes, air according to Nature's intentions is the best solution.
